Making a Complaint

NOTE OF INFORMATION CONCERNING APPLICATIONS TO THE PRESS COUNCIL OF TURKEY

  1. You are entitled to file a complaint on any publication (Newspaper, periodical, news agency, radio or television network) printed within the borders of Turkey or submit your complaints towards any journalist who has violated The Code of Ethics adopted by the Press council, on condition that these applications are made within the last 2 months of the complaint.
  2. Enclose the material (press cuttings and / or sound recorders) or any document that will help as evidence to clarify your complaint. Otherwise your file will not be processed by Supreme Board of the Press Council.
  3. If you do not possess a copy of our CODE of ETHÝCS, ask the Secretariat to send or Fax to you a copy. This will help you to find those principles of ethics that you claim to have been violated and you may register these principles in your application file.
  4. You may also ask for a list of the Press Council Supreme board members, if you think it is necessary. This will give you the opportunity of finding out how many of the Board members are directly involved in your complaint and if you detect such members whom you consider may not act with “total objectivity” , you may use your right to ask those members not to join the debate and the final decision on your complaint. However, your argument on the question of “objectivity” of such members should be submitted to the Supreme Board by the complainant and has to be accepted by the majority of the Board.
  5. As a matter of fact, the Supreme Board members cannot or will not join the debate and final voting process if the complaint involves a case concerning their field of activity. For instance, when a complaint file is received by the Press Council concerning Hürriyet Daily or one of its Contributers, those members of the Supreme Board who have affiliation with the said media organ, cannot take part in the evaluation discussions and the final voting process.
  6. You are not expected to pay any fee for your application.
ATTENTION: The text of CODE of ETHICS will be mailed to you together with this note of information. Please inform us whether it has reached you.
